Chapter 277: Clementine And Sam PT. 1
Sam was ready to go and Clementine knew that everything was going to be alright. She didn’t know why or how but she just knew.
Sam didn’t show interest in how she lived, or what her past was.
This didn’t change even in this state, she hoped that Sam had feelings for her even if it was little but the way he looked at her hadn’t changed.
"Are you ready?" Sam questioned, Clementine quickly composed herself, snapping herself back into reality.
"Yes!" She responded and Sam knew he must have startled her for her voice to be that loud.
"Someone is excited... Happy to see your Jason again?" Sam teased, knowing that Clementine must have taken a liking to him if his name was enough to bring him the fragment he had been asking her to bring.
"What are you talking about?" Clementine responded but Sam didn’t give a response not because he didn’t want to but because his attention was on something else.
He noticed that Clementine had more scars than he remembered and Clementine caught wind of this.
Turning away slightly to show her discomfort, she didn’t know why Sam was staring at her the way he did but it made her uneasy.
"Come here," Sam instructed, gesturing with his hand for her to come to him but Clementine didn’t know what he wanted.
Sam was even more unpredictable than he was previously and this made him more dangerous.
"Don’t tell me you’re scared? The brave Clementine is scared of the harmless old me?" Sam teased and Clementine kissed her teeth in irritation before walking towards him.
Sam knew that she was on guard even though this wasn’t her intention but he didn’t say anything regarding this.
After all, he had tried to kill her multiple times already, it would be foolish not to be.
Clementine stood in front of Sam, her clothes were tattered revealing her navel.
"You must have had it hard..." Sam said, touching the scar on her abdomen but Clementine recoiled at his touch.
She didn’t expect him to touch her and his doing so caught her off guard.
"I don’t know what is wrong with me, Clementine..." Sam said, retracting his fingers as he knew it was too soon.
Clementine didn’t say a word because she knew that Sam wanted to talk, Sam had never spoken about how he felt or any other thing about himself.
"I don’t know how many times I killed you but you kept coming back..." Sam said; this was entering dark territory but Clementine understood that something was wrong with his psych.
"Sam, you don’t have to..." Clementine tried to stop him before he said something he couldn’t take back.
"No, I have to... I killed you because you reminded me of what it was like to care and that was a weakness I couldn’t have," Sam said but Clementine was shocked.
Sam just admitted to caring about her but she couldn’t let her excitement show.
"Then I realized a way to conquer that weakness..." Sam said, pausing as he was clearly lost in thought.
Killing Clementine over again had made the act seem almost natural but if you could kill someone you cared about just enough times.
There was no telling what would happen to those feelings and in Sam’s case, they became nonexistent.
Clementine didn’t know what he was implying but she knew it wasn’t good. Sam had that look in his eyes, the look she had seen countless times in the past.
It was the face he wore right before he took a life.
"Relax, I do not plan to kill," Sam pointed out, sensing her unease.
"I just realized I wasn’t the only one suffering," Sam said, focusing his gaze on her torso.
"This world has gone to shit but you must be one crazy bitch if you found me," Sam said with a smile, he knew that Clementine was the reason he hadn’t lost his mind.
He didn’t know why she was the only hallucination he saw, exempting the situation with the spiders and whatnot he experienced a year back.
And each time Clementine appeared, she urged him not to give up, showing that Sam held her in his subconscious as some beacon of hope.
He didn’t admit it but Clementine had become a part of him but this didn’t mean he wasn’t capable of disposing of her due to this attachment.
This was what Sam indirectly told her before getting up to his feet and walking towards her, Clementine backed up without saying a word and kept doing so.
Her hand firmly gripped the knife tucked in her back, ready to use force to defend herself if need be.
Sam didn’t stop upon noticing this and kept walking towards her until Clementine found her back against a wall and the moment Sam was within range.
She took out her knife and placed it on his jugular but Sam was unfazed by this.
"Go ahead, kill me," Sam said before leaning in and Clementine froze in place, her heart beating like crazy because her brain told her what was happening but her body couldn’t respond appropriately.
Sam was about to kiss her and Clementine didn’t know what to do right until their lips made contact.
Killing wasn’t the only thing that Sam did but he didn’t want to wonder what her lips tasted like any longer.
Sam knew that Clementine had feelings for him or she wouldn’t go to such lengths for him.
Looking back, the signs were obvious but was it because she felt she owed him her life?
That may be the case but Sam didn’t care about any of that.
Clementine closed her eyes in anticipation and that’s when Sam paused and a smile creased his face.
"So I’m your weakness as well," Sam blurred out but his voice wasn’t as close as it was mere moments ago.
Clementine realized that Sam had taken a step back.
She was overcome with embarrassment and just stood there awkwardly, thinking about what to say.
"Fuck you, Sam!" Clementine blurted out but all this resulted in was a heartfelt laughter from him.
"I bet you wish you could..." Sam responded and the room fell silent.
