Chapter 330: Story’s Conclusion PT. 4
The Nexus is the main component of Chronos, it was the single thing needed to complete his complete control over immortality, the dead and the living.
It was a pathway to life and death itself and hoped that Schneider, the smartest man in the world would be the one to accomplish his goal.
But somehow, the Nexus chose Jason and Chronos couldn’t understand why because Jason was an insignificant human but the power of the Nexus was unlimited.
There was no barrier or limitations to what one could do once they unlocked it’s full potential.
Nexus was not only the beginning but it was the end, an ability that transcended time itself but that went in accordance to what the parasite called itself as it roughly resembled the God of time.
From the day that Jason escaped his fate, the one that Schneider would have subjrcted his to, the infection had spread granting him new features from the Nexus and this included the ability to see multiple possible futures.
Everything that has happened, Jason already saw it happen and this includes the death of Glenn.
These were the multiple futures that Jason has seen;
In the event that he went after Schneider or Chronos before now, he would have been slaughtered and assimilated bringing an end to the world as they know it now.
If he decided to return to the community, a fragment would have been planted due to his abnormally high resonance with all things thanks to Nexus.
He would have been the one to kill them all as he would take the crystallized form of Clementine and suck out all the life around him.
These were a few among many but this was the only future that gave them a chance at victory.
Jason knew that Glenn would die, Jason knew that Sam would also die of blood loss but even with this ability, what he saw wasn’t 100 percent accurate.
It was closer to 90 percent and this was why Jason hoped that these scenarios wouldn’t play out to a tee however Glenn couldn’t prevent his fate but if there was anyone that could defy their fate, it was Sam.
The most important factor about this path was Sam and Clementine. This was the only path that they found each other and more importantly, had sex.
It was due to them that this path had such a high chance at success but there was one more downside to this specific path that Jason would do everything in his power to prevent.
That was the death of Rachel, Jason saw her dead but in every scenario, he was with her despite the details being vague.
This was why he stayed away from her and instead, chose to observe her from afar.
This was why he told her to leave because the only way to save her was to sacrifice himself.
But that was the limitation of his ability, he couldn’t see events after his death.
A fate that Jason had accepted without hesitating and with Jason on the verge of assimilating Chronos, he could feel his heartbeat slow and his mind going blank.
"This is it for me..." Jason muttered to himself.
He was satisfied with the life he had lived because if he was able to accomplish his task, then it would bring an end to evolved zombies, or possibly the apocalypse.
This was only one part of the puzzle as the other was Clementine and Sam.
If you cut off the head, the limbs will cease to function and Jason hoped that this would be the case.
"JASON!!" A voice called out in the distance and Jason’s heart dropped the moment he heard this voice.
"R-Rachel!?" He thought to himself, turning his head, hoping that it was his mind playing tricks on him.
She has alone prompting Jason to question where the fuck Dimitris was and the moment she died replayed in his mind but this created a loophole for Chronos to exploit.
Jason had sucked out most of its essence so it was weakened but still stronger than the average evolved zombie as it broke free from Jason’s grasp.
It dashed towards Rache without a second thoughtl, Jason couldn’t move because his body was still processing the power that it had just absorbed and with Chronos interrupting the assimilation, this was the side effect.
Jason watched in horror as the fate he tried so hard to avoid was coming to pass right before his eyes..
"R-RUN RACHEL!" He screamed at the top of his lungs but all that followed was a splatter of blood against the ground.
-
Dimitris and Rachel had retreated from the area but Rachel knew if she left, there was a chance she wouldn’t see Jason again.
They travelled for a bit and coincidentally ran into Brayden and the people he was protecting, prompting Dimitris to offer them help.
Brayden didn’t trust Dimitri’s but he knew that Glenn trusted Rachel enough to have her in his company so he decided to take one last gamble and place his trust in her after hearing of Glenn’s demise.
"You want to go back, don’t you?" Dimitris asked her upon noticing her unease.
He knew without a doubt that she wouldn’t want to lose him again but she was conflicted because she chose to return to him the it would feel like she was abandoning Lillian.
Lillian would need her now considering she didn’t know the extent in which the community had fallen nor did she understand the impact it had on her younger sister.
"It is okay, I will make sure Lillian is safe and if she’s anything like you, I don’t think I need to worry too much about it," Dimitris reassured her, this was one of the few times he had said something remotely kind to her and Rachel realized that she had earned his respect at that moment.
She never lost hope that Jason might be alive, that possibility regardless of how gleam the reality was and he realised that hope in this world might not be such a bad thing after all.
Dimitris and Brayden returned to the community with Rachel returning to the man that she couldn’t depart from but was this the end of the road for her?
-
Sam managed to hold on, he should be dead but he noticed that his wounds had closed up.
But he was still in the same position, he was too weak to move but Clementine was behind that door.
Sam used his chin and began to crawl towards the elusive door, whatever just happened.
He couldn’t help but feel like Clementine was behind it.
Sam kept going in and out of consciousness, each time he woke up, he moved closer to the door but his body was a wreck.
He didn’t just lose his arms but incurred serious internal damages that couldn’t be conquered with a strong mind alone, that wasn’t enough.
He was a human being with biological functions, if those functions were compromised, there was nothing that could be done about it but in little over an hour, Sam was able to reach that door.
But unfortunately for him, the evolved humans arrived at this destination to halt his advance.
"A human?" One of them muttered, confused how such a person was capable of killing one of their own.
"Give me a fucking break..." Sam muttered under his breath, he used the door before him as a crutch to get back on his feet.
Sam was ready for this fight, he knew what needed to be done but he didn’t know why the tendrils protected him but he would need it’s assistance should he wish to overcome this hurdle.
He had a grenade he planned to use to bring this whole tunnel down if he needed to but that was his last resort.
Sam saw one of their hand shapeshift into something grotesque as it shot out a bone hardened to the max as a projectile but Sam managed to duck at the very last second despite it tearing off his left ear.
But this also blew a hole in the door he wished to go through, he realized that these things were cautious.
They didn’t want to get too close because they weren’t sure what he was and they could smell the residue of the fragment he was previously in possession of.
The door gave way causing Sam to crash into the room and he no longer had the strength to get up but he finally saw what was behind that door.
"C-Clementine..." Sam muttered, barely audible as one of the creatures walked behind him.
Ready to deliver the finishing blow and Sam uttetered words he had never said before in his entire life.
" Please... Save me..." Sam pleaded with the crystalized lady, she had done so before so there was a good chance that she would do so again.
But would his words reach Clementine or was this the end of the road for him?
